How did I get the job as Wolf Trap’s photographer? I had an assignment to photograph a press conference announcing Wolf Trap’s upcoming season. Two other press photographers were there, and I offered to let them go first. I always found the press guys to be animals. They didn’t care so much about getting good shots so long as they got ‘a’ shot. I noticed while they were working that Mrs. Catherine Filene Shouse, the woman who donated Wolf Trap to the country was self-conscious about being photographed with her glasses and cane. The press guys didn’t care. When they cleared out and it was my turn, I asked her assistant to take the cane and glasses and took my shots without. A couple of days later, I got a call from the Wolf Trap VP of public relations who told me that Mrs. Shouse said to hire me as their photographer..
